Supplemental Environmental Projects (SEP)

Benefiting Water Quality & Quantity in Eastern California

The State Water Resources Control Board may allow a discharger to fund a Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP) as a part of an imposed administrative civil liability. SEP funding often goes to local groups who want to conduct such activities as monitoring programs, habitat restoration and conservation easements. Sierra Business Council is working with the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board to conduct outreach and workshops to educate interested parties about SEP funding and create a database of potential and current SEP projects in the Lahontan Region. The Lahontan Region extends from the Oregon border to the northern Mojave Desert and includes all of California east of the Sierra Nevada crest.

If you have a project that you want to conduct that directly benefits or studies groundwater or surface water quality or quantity, then your project may qualify for SEP funding. Sierra Business Council conducted the first round of informational meetings in early April.  Three more workshops will be scheduled for late spring or early summer.  This website will be updated when the next workshops dates are confirmed. SEP Proposal Submission:
To submit a proposal for a potential SEP, download the SEP Proposal Excel File. Fill in the required information, save the document on your computer, and email the completed form to kgilbert@sbcouncil.org. If you do not have Microsoft Excel, please contact Krissy Gilbert for alternate submission options.
