Timber Management

» Collins Pine Company

Timber Management in forests is as different from management of tree plantations as is a forest different from a stand of trees.

And different types of timber harvest carry with them different permitting and review requirements. In California, these regulated types of timber harvest are:

  • Christmas Trees

  • Dead, dying or diseased trees

  • Fire hazard reduction harvest

  • Fuel wood or split wood products

  • Harvest on substantially damaged land (not for sawlogs)

  • Any harvest on less than a 3 acre conversion

  • Utility Right of Way

  • Emergency Operations

  • Modified Timber Harvest Plan

  • Timber Harvest Plan

  • Conversion of Timberland

  • Non-industrial Timber Management Plans

In California forests, management for timber production sometimes requires a Timber Harvest Plan and review or a notice of exemption. If you are considering timber harvest, see the Timber Harvest Plan introduction and overview of permitting and review requirements for different types of harvest products.  Also, see current Timber Harvest Plans organized according to watersheds.
