Public/Private Partnerships» Cooperative Forest Management Programs Public/Private Partnerships and collaboratives are becoming a prerequisite for securing both federal and private funding for environmental projects. In fact, as of 2008, federal funding for State and Private Forestry projects funded by the USDA through its network of Conservation Districts will require that such partnerships address restoration and management on a landscape scale. Whether ot not your collaborative project is part of a US Forest Service stewardship contract, you will find applicable planning considerations, templates and tools in the USFS Handbook 3: Creative Budgeting and Monitoring: Developing Budgets for Collaborative Forest Restoration Program Projects [download pdf]. Forest-dependent businesses are also developing non-profit partnerships with existing environmental groups, education, and faith-based and service organizations, and some are establishing non-profits and foundations to restore and support thriving forests.
