Manufacturing of any product is most efficient when it is located close to raw material, and to a trained labor force. This is especially true for forest products; raw materials are oftentimes unwieldy to transport; and, because the characteristics of the wood itself dictate its use, skilled woodworkers in manufacturing facilities oftentimes work in the forests to source their current materials and to simultaneously determine sustainable future harvest.
