Job Training

» Watershed Research & Training Center

Job Training can happen both on-the-job and within a formal education framework. New and re-tooled forest and energy industry is partnering with environmental science and engineering to create living-wage jobs, new careers, and new businesses that conserve and restore ecosystems. They are using business incubators, grants and private investment concurrently, sometimes creating hybrid profit and non-profit business models, or co-ops.

For employment tools, job listings and job training in a wide variety of forest conservation occupations, see Natural Resources Job Search.

As programs sometimes link to, or even evolve from education programs, see also: Community & Economy: Experiential Education.

A study developed by the Renewable Energy Policy Project noted federal and state incentives could create 95,000 new jobs in California related to manufacturing components for renewable energy projects, including biomass. Visit the Apollo Alliance and see: Heat & Energy.

This category includes a case study of an environmental research and training project in the Sierra that worked with a business incubator to foster the development of a forest product company that is now one of largest employers in its area.
