SmartWood Certification Program - The Inimin Forest Management Plan

The Institute of Sustainable Forestry ISF http://www.newforestry.org/ rewards excellent land stewardship with SmartWood Certification of its products. Part of the international program of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Smartwood certified products are increasingly recognized in the marketplace as concerned consumers look for ways to "green their dollars".

In the Sierra, The Inimim Forest, 1,813 acres of BLM lands interspersed with private property on the San Juan Ridge in Nevada County, is meeting pre-conditions for SmartWood Certification through community-based, cooperative joint management agreement by the Bureau of Land Management and the Timber Framers Guild for sustainable harvest of specialty wood. Wood of the size and strength needed for timber-framing must come from a late seral, or old growth forest, so the first goal of the management plan is to re-establish the forest.
