Fire Management

As catastrophic wildfire drains the region of it’s natural resources by devastating forest ecosystems in the summer months, concerted efforts are necessary to mitigate the severity of this threat. Fire suppression has been the tactic for the past 50 years in the Sierra Nevada. Due to this approach fuel loads in the forests have multiplied. Fires now tear through forestlands as California’s most costly natural disaster; devastating ecosystems, urban infrastructure, and families as fire-related death counts grow with the tinder in the dry season. Forestry funding for fire-shed management is currently undersized leading concerned people to come up with inventive and courageous new approaches to alleviate this threat.

Case Studies: In this section you will hear from a diverse array of stakeholders, bringing creative applications to fire management with the intention to sustain fire mitigation in synergy with human and forest systems.
