Interested in do-it-yourself tips? Here are some things you can do to save energy and dollars, starting right now! 10 things to do right now - Lower your water heater temperature to 120°.
- Run cold-water washes and wash with full loads.
- Line-dry your clothes whenever possible.
- Only run dishwashers with full loads on energy-saver mode and air dry.
- Turn off lights when not in use.
- Turn off computers and printers at the power strip
- Un-plug electronic devices, chargers, and appliances when not in use.
- Use a microwave only for reheating and cooking small items.
- Clean the coils on the back of your refrigerator
- Clean or replace air conditioner, furnace, and heat pump filters
Seasonal Tips for Summer Set your thermostat to 78° or higher when you’re home. Set your air conditioner to 85° or off when you’re away for more than 4 hours. Close drapes and shutters to keep house cool. Seasonal Tips for Winter Lower your thermostat and layer your clothing Set your thermostat to 55° before going to bed at night or when away from home for more than 4 hours. Turn your heater down to 55° or off when you’re using your fireplace. Close damper when not using fireplace. Use passive solar heating on sunny days. Open drapes and let the sun in during the day, and close drapes to retain heat at night.
