Dollar for the Sierra

Much of the fuel reduction, restoration, and maintenance work needed on our treasured but imperiled forestlands is unfunded. The budgets of our federal land management agencies are weak, and philanthropic dollars have a hard time making it up hill to the Sierra.

Donate to $1 for the Sierra>

The Sierra Business Council is partnering with the National Forest Foundation to launch a simple program that gives those who use and appreciate our region’s natural assets the opportunity to support these critical projects in our forests. This program is called “$1 for the Sierra.”

Objectives
To enhance the natural infrastructure while sustaining the human communities of the Sierra Nevada so that the region may continue to provide valuable ecosystem services to the residents of California and Nevada for centuries to come.

Process
“$1 for the Sierra” is a voluntary donation program. Through the program, guests and patrons of Sierra businesses are invited to contribute to help fund local projects to benefit the healthy functioning of our forests. The funds collected at local businesses, aggregated by the National Forest Foundation and Sierra Business Council, and then redistributed to local community groups to work on projects selected by local steering committees

Results
Summer 2007 introduced a series of Sustaining Sierra Forests Events throughout the Sierra Nevada region that made mention of "$1 for the Sierra." The Program officially launches in the early Fall of 2008 and we look forward to a positive reception within the community.
