Climate Action ReserveThe Climate Action Reserve (CAR), formerly known as the California Climate Action Registry, is a private non-profit organization originally formed by the State of California. The Reserve serves as a voluntary greenhouse gas (GHG) registry to protect and promote early actions to reduce GHG emissions by organizations. The Reserve provides leadership on climate change by developing and promoting credible, accurate, and consistent GHG reporting standards and tools for organizations to measure, monitor, third-party verify and reduce their GHG emissions consistently across industry sectors and geographical borders. Forest Project Protocols The Forest Project Protocol and Forest Verification Protocol provide guidance to account for, report, and verify GHG emissions reductions associated with forest conservation, conservation-based management, and reforestation projects in California. The current Forest Project Protocols are available for public use but are applicable for California forests only. CAR workgroup members are in the process of revising these protocols, due out in the summer of 2009. The updated protocol will be applicable nation-wide, and aim to lower barriers to participation while upholding the credibility and transparency required of high-quality standards. Project developers that undertake forest projects will use this protocol to register forest project GHG reductions with the Reserve. The original protocols were adopted by the California Registry Board of Directors in June 2005, and an updated version of the protocols was adopted by the Board in September 2007. |
