Krissy Gilbert
Program Director Krissy‘s quick and pragmatic analysis of ideas combined with her bias for action drives efficient and thorough approach to challenges and opportunities. Krissy is a hard-working, tenacious, intellectually curious woman. She is passionate about finding innovative ways of integrating environmental and social concerns into mainstream societal behavior. With a strong vision and drive to implement sustainability principles in the Sierra Nevada region, Krissy enthusiastically joined SBC in May 2007. Her adaptability has allowed her to accomplish remarkable successes in different areas of the organization in a short time. She plays a key role in developing new projects, providing technological support, and managing project coordination. systems. Professional Experience Krissy joined the Sierra Business Council as a Program Assistant in May 2007, bringing with her extensive educational and professional experience in environmental science, with an emphasis in the effects of anthropogenic influences on aquatic ecosystems.
Prior to joining the Sierra Business Council, Krissy worked as the Project Coordinator for the Agricultural Water Quality Team at the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) in Ventura County. While Project Coordinator, Krissy oversaw the implementation and monitoring of more than thirty Best Management Practices (BMP) in local commercial agricultural properties and coordinated the publication of a manual for protecting water quality in greenhouses and nurseries. Krissy spent two years conducting aquatic toxicology research at the University of California Marine Pollution Studies Lab at Granite Canyon in Big Sur. She is most proud of the research conducted on the impacts of agricultural drain water on the Salinas River. Krissy has also assisted with research on salmon migration in the Central Valley of California and spent two years with the UC Davis Castle Lake Research Group.
Since 2004, Krissy has been a part time instructor at Sierra College, where she teaches lecture, lab, and field courses in biology and environmental science. Her other teaching experience includes science labs at CSU Chico, astronomy labs at UC Davis, environmental science in elementary schools in Davis, and natural and cultural history aboard whale watch vessels in the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. Education Krissy earned her MS Degree in Environmental Science from California State University, Chico in 2004 and her BA degree in Nature and Culture from the University of California, Davis in 1999. Personal Highlights Krissy has lived in many beautiful places in California, including Mt. Shasta, Big Sur, Gaviota, and Truckee. She has travelled through New Zealand, Fiji, Europe, Alaska, Baja, and the West. She enjoys camping, backpacking, hiking, swimming, and cycling. She is happiest when she’s with her rescue dog Cota. |
