Fuels Reduction

img/compendium-fire.jpg Fuels Reduction is activity that addresses fuel loading - a buildup of easily ignited, fast-burning combustible materials. Fuel loading transforms periodic, naturally occurring fires that reinvigorate the land and allow fire-adapted seed pods to open, into fires that burn so quickly, and so hot, that they destroy fire-adapted heritage trees and landscapes.

Included in this category are techniques and management strategies for fuels reduction that improve forest health.

Case Studies

Case studies highlight projects that employ various methods of reducing fuels on forestlands. Case studies are organized by tool or method used.

Categorized here by a primary function, each business or project may also address other economic, environmental, and community goals in forest communities. As such, you may find them cross-listed in other categories.
