A number of Sierra communities require developers to design neighborhoods with very wide curved roads – increasing speeds as well as sprawl and soil erosion – as a result of their road engineering standards to manage snow. SBC investigated best practices from other communities such as Telluride, Crested Butte, Aspen and Vail to show innovative ways in which efficient snow removal and storage can take place without requiring such high cut and fill grading requirements.
