Northern Sierra Partnership and Carbon Cooperative Program Assistant

This position is offered through the 2009 Sierra Nevada AmeriCorp Partnership. Please click here for more information about the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorp Partnership.

Program Description
: By working with private landowners, government agencies and
community organizations, the Northern Sierra Partnership (NSP) supports the creation of a strategic mosaic of public and private lands that protect species diversity and habitat; maintain a critical mass of working ranches, forests, and tribal lands; provide public benefit in the form of recreation, water quality, and carbon sequestration to the state of California; and improve the social and economic conditions in Northern Sierra communities.

NSP will focus its efforts by collaborating on implementing strategic land transaction projects, development of ecosystem services marketplaces and developing policy initiatives needed to create an enduring and vital social, conservation, and economic framework in the region. The partnership will coordinate fundraising, communications, outreach, and government relations related to partnership-supported projects.

SBC’s Sierra Nevada Carbon Cooperative program is an effort to tie funding for ecosystem services to restoration and conservation activities in the Sierra Nevada. The history of natural resource extraction and commodification in the Sierra Nevada has seen most financial benefits flow out of the region. Developing the infrastructure to capture the value of ecosystem services in the region provides us an opportunity to use the value of these assets to reinvest in the future sustainability of the Sierra Nevada. This position plays a crucial role in meeting that objective.
