John Singlaub

Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer

John has managed small and medium organizations (30 – 130 employees) in the public sector, primarily in land management, land use regulation, natural resources, and environmental planning.  He is also an experienced project manager.  He has served on several Boards of non-profit organizations in the social services, education, and land conservation sectors. 

Professional Experience

John left the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) in 2009, after serving five years as the Executive Director.  TRPA is the bi-state planning and regulatory agency responsible for the protection and restoration of Lake Tahoe.  Prior to that, John served more than 25 years as a planner and manager for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), most recently as the District Manager for BLM in Carson City, Nevada.  Other BLM assignments included Oregon, New Mexico, Colorado and Washington, DC.

John served for several years as a member of the Board of Directors of the Sierra Business Council, but resigned from that post to accept the Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer position.  He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Tahoe Rim Trail Association.

Educational Background

John graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1973 with a degree in Geography.  He also has a Master of Planning from the University of Virginia, School of Architecture that he earned in 1979.

Personal Highlights

John has two grown children and one grandson who make him smile.  He is an avid mountain climber, skier, kayaker, and hiker living in Zephyr Cove, Lake Tahoe, Nevada.  He is the 140th person to have enjoyed the view from the highest point in every state.
