Emma Ingebretsen

Energy Associate

Emma served as a 2009 Americorps member with SBC through the Sierra Nevada Americorps Partnership Program.  Emma comes to SBC with an interdisciplinary education, varied work experience, and an enthusiasm for finding new ways to approach and address environmental, economic and social issues.  Emma earned B.S. degrees in Molecular Biology and Economics from the University of Wisconson-Madison, and also received a certificate in Environmental Studies.  During her final year of college she interned with the Sierra Club working on clean energy issues, primarily advocating for alternatives to coal-based energy in the Midwest.  Emma has also assisted in a research lab looking at environmental antibiotic resistance, and worked as a guide leading teenage girls on wilderness canoe trips in northern Minnesota and Ontario.

Emma's educational, work and camping experiences have fostered her interest in and love for the natural world, and led her to pursue an Americorps position focused on the environment.  She is delighted to have the opportunity to serve with an organization that shares her vision of sustainable systems and communities.

Personal Highlights

Emma comes to Truckee from Minnesota.  Although she is a true Midwesterner at heart, she is excited to live in a new place and explore a different part of the country.  She has spent many of her summers canoeing and camping in Minnesota's Northwoods, and in her spare time she hopes to take advantage of the abundance of outdoor activities that the Sierra Nevada has to offer, including but not limited to skiing, snowshoeing, biking and backpacking.  Emma also enjoys reading, music, and cooking.
